BUILDING A FUNCTIONAL WARDROBE .

Modesty is key in Islam for both men and women.The woman has however been given a criteria to follow when it comes to her outfit. A striving muslim woman does not see it as an oppression but a means of subservience to Allah.

Modesty is compulsory, however, Allah has given us the power of choice.

… and not display their beauty except what is apparent, and they should place their khumur(veil) over their bosoms…

Surah nur-30

Alhamdulillah that you have chosen to please Allah.May He accept this and keep you firm. Aameen.

The modest outfit must fulfil the following;

  1. Must not be transparent.
  2. Must not be tight or figure hugging. Ie.It must be loose.
  3. Must be long enough to touch your feet.(your feet is awrah- parts of the body that must not be seen by anyone aside your very close relatives, brother, husband, father ,sister, mother.)
  4. Must not resemble the mens outfit.

It is important to dress in a way that makes you comfortable and does not draw much attention to you, phew, the struggle is real.

Imagine wearing an all black outfit, Abaya, hijab or niqab, black socks to work.It would be completely normal in an Islamic country. But that is not to say we should not be able to express our faith because of where we find ourselves.But more of dressing in a way that will not draw much attention to us.Our female role models during the time of the prophet used to wear colors such as  green ,yellow etc.

In making good use of this time of social distancing and the lockdown, take a look at your wardrobe and declutter, find your style and get the outfits that make you C.C (comfortable and confident).

I’m sharing tips for the modern muslim woman who loves fashion but wants to remain modest.
