SURVIVING THE LAST TEN DAYS OF RAMADAN.

SURVIVING THE LAST TEN DAYS OF RAMADAN.

Alhamdullilah, we are thankful to Allah(SWT) for granting us the blessing of this beautiful month of Ramadan. Barely a month ago, we were counting down days to Ramadan and fast forward to today, we have entered into it’s final ten days.

Ramadan fatigue is real as we adjust to a whole new change in lifestyle. We are waking up earlier than usual, intensifying our acts of Ibaadah and for a lot of us, even working.

We are getting into the last ten days of Ramadan and is it time to slow down? Certainly not.

If anything at all, this is the time to go hard. Burn out is normal yet how do we make the most out of this month during these last ten days?

“We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the Angels and the Spirit (Jibraeel or Angel Gabriel) by Allah’s permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn!” (Surah Qadr)

We are told of how powerful the night of Lailatul-Qadr is but are we certain on which night it’ll occur? Certainly not. Therefore it’s important we pay attention to all the remaining days of this month in order to be among those to attain this blessing.

Aisha (RA) narrated a hadith from the Prophet (SAW) saying, “I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me if I were to find a Night of Power, what should I recite therein?” Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised her to recite:
“Al-laa-hum-ma in-na-ka ‘afoow-wan tu-hib-bul-‘af wa fa-fu ‘an-ni”
O Allah! You are Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me. (Bukhari).
These last ten days are for seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

These last days can be very stressful but we can manage the stress and  benefit from the blessing of Lailatul-Qadr. In Shaa Allah.

Below are some tips on how to survive these last ten days.

1. Sleep early.
Part of attaining the blessing of Lailatul-Qadr is to wake up and observe tajjahud. And we usually wake up for this kind of prayers around 12 to 3am. As an individual you should know how your body works and plan these ten days accordingly. Sleep early and wake up early. Recognize the best time for you to stay awake between the hours of 12am to 3am. You won’t want to wake up at 12 and by 2am, you fall asleep again to the extent of missing Suhoor and even Fajr. Sleep early so your body can get enough energy for Ibaadah when you wake up.

2. Create a Duaa list.
If at the beginning of Ramadan you weren’t able to create a Duaa list, now is the time. Make a list of all the duaas you want to make. Please do well to pray for forgiveness and mercy (In reference to the Prophet’s Duaa on the night of Lailatul-Qadr.) Add the Ummah and the world in your list. Be generous with your duaas.

3. Personalize moments with Allah.
During these last days, personalize moments with Allah in the sense that you get real with your communication with Him. We all have bad habits we want to stop and the only One who can truly help us and deliver us is Allah. Let’s get real and open with Allah. Let’s be vulnerable to Him because indeed we are weak and He is Al-Qawwiy. (The Strong).

4. Make Dhikr and more Dhikr.
These are the times we need to intensify our dhikir. Make lots and lots Dhikr. SubhanAllah, Alhamdullilah, Allahu-Akbar, SubhanAllahi Wabihamdihi-SubhanAllahil Azeem including
Al-laa-hum-ma in-na-ka ‘afoow-wan tu-hib-bul-‘af wa fa-fu ‘an-ni.

5. Recite and Reflect on the words of the Quran.
Reading the Quran in Ramadan gains us more reward and certainly reading it with its Tafsir during these last ten days will In Shaa Allah gain us even much more reward.

6. Manage your time.
This is not the time to engage yourself with the unnecessary. Schedule your time and gain the maximum benefit from it. Also, try as much as possible to limit your time and engagement with social media. Scrolling mindlessly through social media might not seem like a waste of time but it really is. If possible set screen time for yourself and try as much as possible to abide by it.

The last ten days of Ramadan are said to be blessed because in it is the night of power. So let’s try as much as possible to intensify our acts of Ibaadah during these days. Make duaa, and more duaa and In Shaa Allah, we’ll attain the blessings of the night of Lailatul-Qadr.
